Perspectives YYC adds a new point of view

We are growing again with the addition of Calgary Culture: The Perspectives YYC Podcast!

Hosted by David Youn, this podcast features creative Calgarian conversations. David himself is a photographer and publisher, and his desire to uplift local artists and creative people infuses his questions. The podcast is an extension of his larger Perspectives YYC project.

The podcast gets production support from Kyle Marshall of Media Lab YYC, who has three shows on our network (Assumptions, Creative Block and Putting It Together). You can hear a bit more about their collaboration on Episode 37 of Creative Block, and you can hear even more about David’s journey in Episode 13.

We’re excited to have a Calgary counterpart for our Edmonton-focused arts show, I Don’t Get It. Their approaches are pretty different, but they both pay attention to what’s going on in local arts and culture, and that’s the sort of thing we like to encourage.

Subscribe to Calgary Culture: The Perspectives YYC Podcast in any of the usual places, and follow the show on Instagram and Facebook.

Many thanks to our founding sponsor, ATB Financial, and our other sponsors for making it possible to bring shows like this into the network.

Head into the long weekend with the latest episodes from our member podcasts, organized into playlists so you can choose the topic that most appeals to you. You can grab a playlist for your app by hitting the “subscribe” button, or sample the shows here:

Learning

Girl Tries Life talks to Komal Minhas about Dream, Girl and wellness at work; Ed chats with Justin Garcia about being an LGBTQ+ teacher and creating a classroom that welcomes everyone; and Not There Yet offers some unsolicited advice to Twitter.

Entertainment

Putting It Together puts a bow on A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by recasting the movie with Repodcasting’s Lucia and Janet. Bollywood is For Lovers examines the career of Shahid Kapoor, and I Have Some Notes rewrites The Net. I Don’t Get It reviews both of Edmonton’s Freewill Shakespeare Festival shows, and The UnDad looks back at the Sterling Award-winning Lake of the Strangers. And Press Start to Join geeks out with longtime friend of the pod Asa Gray. We’ll add the latest from The Read-Along when it comes out, too.

Alberta stories

Let’s Find Out answers a question about why we don’t find many bears in Edmonton. City of Champions interviews Edmonton city councillor Sarah Hamilton, and Speaking Municipally features a guest appearance from Julie Kusiek to discuss kid-friendly streets and council chambers. All three food podcasts have new episodes: Eat More Barbecue looks back at Porkapalooza; Mess Hall Podcast visits with Jeff von Rotz from Valbella Gourmet Foods; and Tomato Radio heads out to Haywire Farms.

Sports

2 and Out looked back at last weekend’s CFL games with Andrew Hoskins of the Eskimo Empire Podcast (which is joining the network, by the way!), then Brazilian Ty came back to preview this week’s games. Loyal Company of the River Valley sees some hope in FC Edmonton’s recent performance. And hockey season is over, but Hockey Feels and The 4th Line have plenty to talk about with the draft, the awards, the trades and everything.

Eskimo Empire Podcast enters the huddle

As the CFL regular season starts to hit its stride, we’re happy to announce that the Eskimo Empire Podcast has joined our team!

Hosted by Andrew, Mike and Kayla, this is one of Edmonton’s longest-running podcasts. It offers a passionate look at the Esks and CFL football every Tuesday during the season (a little less frequently through the off-season). You can also get a sneak preview every Monday night on Twitter, just before they record their show from the Turf District.

If you don’t listen to Eskimo Empire yet, you may have heard a sampling on our network. Andrew recently guest-hosted on 2 and Out, and Kayla was on Tight Ends last June.

Eskimo Empire is an enthusiastic member of the CFL Podcast Network, as is 2 and Out, and we know it will be a great citizen of our community, too.

Be sure to subscribe in the podcatcher of your choice, and follow the show on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Many thanks to our founding sponsor, ATB Financial, and our other sponsors for making it possible to keep growing the network!
