Quality time with the APN fam-jam — The week on APN — Feb. 12-18

As ever, APN's got a full playlist of new episodes to accompany your quality time with loved ones. Plug in your podcatcher and enjoy the long weekend, folks!

February keeps getting stranger — The week on APN — Feb. 5-11

Confused hibernators — including some of our podcasters returning from their winter breaks — are waking to the world and seeing all sorts of disaster this week. Roads are blocked by slush and truckers, utility bills are sky-high, and everywhere you turn seems to be fully stocked with pink and red candy (surely a sign that an expensive commercial holiday is coming). It's enough to make you want to go back to sleep until the next round of boosters comes available.

But, grumble not: Your pals at APN have got your back with a whole new playlist of episodes to accompany your weekend exploits. We highly recommend a handful of colourful crocus or tulip bulbs to brighten your space, too. (Or, if you can wait until Feb. 15, we hear there might be a big clearance sale on roses.)

The “subscribe” button on the Listen Notes list below will let you grab a playlist of these for your podcatcher.

  • Bridging the Gap is back for a chat with C.C. (age seven) and Shep (age five) on the year's first episode.

  • The Turf District launches into Season 8 with the crew looking at the Elks' new leaders, new coaches, new players — basically all the "new" news!

  • Bollywood is For Lovers commemorates Valentine's Day with film critic, fellow podcaster, and romance aficionado Manish Mathur to discuss art imitating life with Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in Guru.

Groundhogs agree: We've passed midwinter— The week on APN - Jan. 29 - Feb. 4

As Groundhog Day arrived with its exaltations of noble, weather-predicting rodents, we got curious about how this quirky ritual emerged. Feb. 2 is smack halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox: Old Christians called it Candlemas, Celts and pagans celebrated Imbolc. Germans started to employ hedgehogs as meteorologists, and the rest — as they say — is history.

Whether you buy the fluff that a whistle-pig can summon the seasons, there's something to be said for turning points. We're over the hump, right? No looking back. And if you do, don't let your shadow scare you. It means there's sunshine out there. Turn up this week's playlist and reflect on how far you've come.

The “subscribe” button below will let you grab this week’s playlist for your podcatcher.
